How to request a correction

Include the article URL, the exact statement you believe is inaccurate, the reason it is incorrect and a reliable source that supports the requested change. Specific requests can be reviewed faster than general disagreement with an article’s conclusion.

How requests are reviewed

We compare the request with the article’s cited material, publication date and available primary sources. When needed, we seek additional documentation or context. A source’s preference for different wording does not automatically establish an error, but new evidence is considered on its merits.

What happens after review

If a material factual error is confirmed, we correct it promptly and may add an editor’s note describing the substance of the change. If new information changes an otherwise accurate older story, we may update the article and its modified date or publish a separate follow-up. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting and clarity edits may be made without a note when the meaning is unchanged.

Independence

Correction decisions are made on evidence, not advertising relationships, pressure from a subject or the popularity of a story. We do not remove accurate published material solely because it is inconvenient. Privacy, safety and legal concerns are reviewed carefully and may require a different remedy.
